Summary of those Jam?son Families with the Proven (or assumed) terminal SNP of BY-34356

Listed below are the Y-DNA tests of those people who have taken YDNA tests where the results have shown they are part of this large group of people/families using the surname Jam?son who test positive for the proof (or likely proof) they have a Terminal SNP BY34356. This means they are all likely to emanate from a single (although unknown) ancestor with that otherwise popular same surname, ie. Jam?son, in any of it's morphed spellings, or derivatives.

These tests are shown in two ways (parts), both the SNP parts and the STR parts. The graphic displays (numbers, etc.) shown here, are really only the proof that just a list of names would ordinarily suffice and also a convenient way to access each of those tests/people/families for further genealogical research - one big connected family - broken down.

Notes about test data below:

Details listed below are those test results pertaining to the areas relevant to the primary lineage of just the Y-Chromosone of each person tested and does not otherwise represent that person genetically beyond this narrow pedigree only study.

Haplo Group/Tree - Haplogroups are the categories (groups) each persons belongs with. These haplogroups (A-Z) are determined by a person's DNA, specifically the existence of certain SNPs within each persons DNA. These SNPs are known to mutate slightly and infrequently every few hundred years forming new inheritable SNPs, indicating new subclades (subgroups). The numbers in the chart below are the unique SNP markers revealed in each test result. They represent the DNA location where a specific mutation occurred, creating what can be considered new "branch" of the Haplo tree.

Notes about this chart: SNP test results shown below, are from different individuals of just this Jameson family group.
Note on the color coding : Green = tested and confirmed, Orange = predicted.

SNP Comments and Analysis:

A positive presence of the SNP "M253" marker proves Haplogroup I1 ("eye" one) and the "parent" SNP subclade (branch) "M253" (I-M253), for this family. A thorough explanation of this Haplogroup can be found at Eupedia here. for this family. A thorough explanation of this Haplogroup can be found at Eupedia here.

The I1 haplogroup is thought to have originated some 15,000 to 20,000 or more, years ago, perhaps in the Iberian Refugia (Spain) and is itself a subclade (subgroup) from the I-M170 Haplogroup, formed about 40,000 to 45,000 years ago, most likely in the middle east or northern Africa. Our Jam?son families would most likely have come from those of the I-M523 haplogroup who concentrated in the area now known as Denmark or Northern Germany and made their way to the British Isles, either directly or by way of Scandinavia.

Extended SNP testing within various branches of the family reveals a positive existence at subclade SNP DF29, where after our Jameson family split (mutated genetically) into two different groups (branches), maybe 4,600 years ago, way before anybody was using the surname Jameson. Particulars of this split can be found here. It is interesting, that somehow these two families eventually (miraculously?) reformed into the same family hundreds, maybe thousands of generations later, probably by sheer coincidence, their original connections most likely unknown to each other, yet ending up part of the same family again, using the same surname.

One extended (Big-Y) test (#88227), on one side of the family, shows a SNP path which includes positives at subclade SNPs: Z58 and Z139, thought to have been formed about 4,000 years ago in the Nordic Bronze Age and early Germanic Iron Age expansion. This would then be almost certainly true also of tests: 185066, 195455, 201202 and 816905. The Big-Y test has also determined even more recent SNP subclade categorizing, including a new SNP, "BY34656," with 16 or more, of it's own, yet to be named (2019), possible subgroups. The BY34656 subclade is thought to be about 2,200 years old and it's apparent subgroups probably even somewhat more recent, putting what is known about part of this family into modern times. It can be assumed this is also true of everyone else on this same side of the family.

Further SNP testing with the other group, including tests #s 178784 and 284596 have proven different and divergent (after DF29) downstream subclades, ending (so far) with a seminal SNP of CT10028, thought to be formed about about 4000 years ago. Because of this, the final "terminal SNP (Subclade), may actually also be different, however it is unlikely this family is unlikely different, given it's other tell-tail clues, primarily given known location and STR testing results.

Newer and more recent SNP's and their subclades are being discovered and analyzed now with greater frequency, in what is still a very new and evolving science. Any information learned from these newer subcategories, in either group, would still be more anthropological than genealogical, yet could provide interesting insights as to migrations, time line locations and other cultural insights.

Y-DNA DYS Profile - As determined by the STR numbers in the DYS chart below. These DYS numbers in the heading are the DNA location of specific genetic information shown in the test results below. The actual results are expressed with extraneous numbers, which only become useful when collectively considered an individual's overall profile and used to compare to someone else's test. Each 'Profile' should be looked at as a whole, like you would a finger print.

STR Comments and Analysis:

All tests are 37 marker tests, except test # 8827, which is a 111 marker "Big-Y" test.

Tests #178784 & 284596 (grandfather and grandson) prove they are an exception, even though their traditional genealogy (typical paper trail) seems perfectly in order. The STR marker deviation is off in 10 places (across the 37) and additional SNP testing (see above) also indicates a diversion many generations ago, which by all expert accounts proves there can be no close 'genetic' relationship (no common ancestor within over 100 generations), even though the marker deviation are only off by one repeat in just about every marker case. It should also be noted that these two tests (persons) do match a different Jameson family (tests 311680 and 496098, elsewhere), although only for the first 12 markers, who incidentally were not know to be in that area of Ireland as was the rest of this general Jameson family.
