David Jameson Family of Virginia - group details

Family and descendants of the David and Mary Jameson family, from pre Colonial, Essex County, Virginia, as listed in the Jamesons in America

Oldest Presumed Ancestor: Whoever Wherever?

Oldest Proven Common Ancestor : David Jameson (d.1711)

Other Y-DNA Proven "Common" Ancestors : Thomas Jameson (c.1718-1767), James Madison Jameson (c.1741-1827)

Notes about test data below:

Details listed below are those test results pertaining to the areas relevant to the primary lineage of just the Y-Chromosone of each person tested and does not otherwise represent that person genetically beyond this narrow pedigree only study.

Haplo Group/Tree - Haplogroups are the categories (groups) each persons belongs with. These haplogroups (A-Z) are determined by a person's DNA, specifically the existence of certain SNPs within each persons DNA. These SNPs are known to mutate slightly and infrequently every few hundred years forming new inheritable SNPs, indicating new subclades (subgroups). The numbers in the chart below are the unique SNP markers revealed in each test result. They represent the DNA location where a specific mutation occurred, creating what can be considered new "branch" of the Haplo tree.

SNP Comments and Analysis:

In general, the "R" haplogroup, with all of it's subgroups, is widespread and the largest haplogroup now found in Europe. It is thought to have developed in pre-history Europe, Central Asia and South Asia, some 27,000 years ago or older. This particular family's "R" Haplogroup is defined as with the existence of the SNP M207 and then numerous subclades. More specifically, this family's history is from one of it's numerous subclades, M198 (sometimes referred to as M512), by way of previous mutations including the SNP subclades M173 and M459. The M198 subclade, was itself created about 18,000 years ago. It is not thought to be a particularly popular sub haplogrouping, but does seem to have a significant presence in peoples of Scandinavian descent, with highest levels in Norway and Iceland. Vikings and Normans may have also carried the R1a1a lineage westward, accounting for at least part of the small presence found in the descendants from the British Isles.

Further SNP testing with one test, a 'Full-Y' reveals a terminal SNP of M29757, which is thought to be created somewhere around 3000 to 3500 years ago This same M29757 can be reasonably assumed for the other close matching tests, as well.

Y-DNA DYS Profile - As determined by the STR numbers in the DYS chart below. These DYS numbers in the heading are the DNA location of specific genetic information shown in the test results below. The actual results are expressed with extraneous numbers, which only become useful when collectively considered an individual's overall profile and used to compare to someone else's test. Each 'Profile' should be looked at as a whole, like you would a finger print.

Notes about this chart: STR test results shown below, are from different individuals of just this Jameson family group.

STR Comments and Analysis:

Two of the tests known to be for this family are of the 111 STR marker variety, one of which is a 'Full Y' test

Other Tests (elsewhere) of Importance, Not Included in this Group:

Y-203011 Jamieson Magnus Jamieson, 1771-1857, Papa Stour, Shetland - Scotland
Y-157011 Jamison Jon Johnson 1680. Shetland - Norway

Notes & Analysis:

These other tests show their earliest ancestors as from the Shetland Islands, suggesting others with this DNA profile may also have their ancestry in the Shetlands.
